With Apple unveiling the iPhone 13 last week, Microsoft has returned serve with the second edition of their double screened device, the Surface Duo 2. Having failed to inspire the masses with the original foldable concept back in 2020, the Surface Duo 2 has made some critical upgrades that should, at the very least, pique the interest of the tech geek living inside every one of us. Now equipped with 5G capability, a dynamic triple-lens camera, and optimised stereo audio, the Surface Duo 2 also offers updated dual-screen experiences for Microsoft 365, gaming and entertainment.
Dual Screen Design
At 5.5mm when open, the Surface Duo 2 claims to be the thinnest 5G mobile device on the market. Utilising an 8.3″ PixelSense Fusion display allows users to employ each high-resolution 5.8″ touchscreen individually or together across a variety of modes. For multitasking masters, the multiple screens allow two apps to run side by side, drag and drop or even create a personalised combo with App Groups. Additionally, category enhanced apps such as TikTok Kindle and Spotify provide unique experiences across the dual-screens. Whether you are in Book, Compose or Tent mode, the Surface Duo 2 is designed to seamlessly adapt with its ‘Revolutionary Hinge’.
Microsoft has taken a much-needed leap from the original concept and fitted the Surface Duo 2 with a new triple-lens camera capable of high-quality photos and 4K video. Aiming to improve low-light performance and a bigger depth of field, users can now choose from wide-angle, telephoto, or ultra-wide options while viewing or editing shots. Providing a completely redesigned photo experience backed up by OneDrive, the Surface Duo 2 allows for images to be captured and reviewed in real-time on two screens and makes photography accessible across all devices.
Powered By 5G
Designed to showcase the potential of Microsoft 365 in your pocket, the Surface Duo 2 offers productivity and entertainment that’s powered by 5G. Whether it’s business or pleasure, the smart device allows users to connect and collaborate in real-time across two screens as well as relax with their favourite TV show or sporting event at ultra-fast speeds. Furthermore, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and its on-screen controller mean you can immerse yourself in interactive stories with friends anywhere, anytime. Additionally, the highly popular racing sensation Gameloft Asphalt 9 has been enhanced for two-screen play for the first time ever.
Coming in either Obsidian or Glacier colours, the Surface Duo 2 configurations include 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. Scheduled to start delivering in late October, the price list is yet to be fully revealed, with the base model starting at AUD$ 2,319.00.
