Many people have fond memories of growing up spending hours in station wagons going to and from practice or school and on family vacations. With the proliferation of electric vehicles, one couldn’t be blamed for questioning whether any future generation will ever experience those blissful hours, what with electric cars coming in many different styles except for station wagon. There is, however, at least one remedy to this concern, and for approximately USD$202,000 you could own a one-of-a-kind, custom-built Tesla Model S Shooting Brake.
Floris de Raadt commissioned RemetzCar to make the one-off station wagon with the help of Niels van Roij Design. The Model SB takes in the styling of Shooting Brakes, a design that has been around for more than a century. The project was completed two years ago. The car started out as a rear-wheel-drive 2013 Model S P85—that’s before Tesla started using the Long Range Plus and Performance trims. RemetzCar chopped up the Tesla’s aluminium long-roof bodywork, splicing in the station wagon back, which came from a Jaguar XF Sportbrake. The build was completed with a set of 21-inch turbine wheels. Inside, beige and black leather deck out the interior. The car boasts 422 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque—a far cry from those old school station wagons from yesteryear.
The original idea was to create more of these Tesla Shooting Brake conversions, but as the project was being worked on, the budget kept going up. Huib de Vries, a public relations and marketing expert, was brought on to help develop a business concept that would sell the conversion. A website was initially set up, but the price continued to skyrocket, and soon it was abundantly apparent that this would be the only car to be made. The price ended up being twice what the original electric car cost. But if you want to preserve those childhood memories for the next generation, you may need to pick up this Tesla Shooting Brake. You can purchase it from JB Classic Cars.
