Eminem Drops $642,000 on a Bored Ape NFT that Looks Just like Him

Eminem is the latest celebrity to join the illustrious Bored Ape Yacht Club. The rapper recently bought one of the non-fungible tokens for roughly 123.4 ETh (AU$642,000) and quickly made the ape his new Twitter profile picture. With its uncanny resemblance to the 49-year-old’s iconic headwear, the NFT was dubbed the “EminApe” online.

The Bored Ape in question was sold by NFT collector GeeGazza, who had long been yearning for Eminem to purchase it from him. In November, he posted to Twitter, “I still think @Eminem is destined to buy my @BoredApeYC one day”. Well, that dream became reality last Thursday, with the profound lyricist pulling the trigger on the sale. “I’m living in a simulation”, said GeeGazza in a Tweet. “Thank you @Eminem for buying my ape and joining the club! Madness. Let me write a lyric in your next single 🤣”.

Digital creative agency 6, which guides musicians, brands and visual artists in the NFT space, helped secure the deal. Working alongside the rapper, the company has previously teamed up with other celebrities on web3 opportunities, including the Wu-Tang Clan, Galantis and Tycho. Eminem is no stranger to digital collectibles, owning 15 NFTs on OpenSea under the name Shady Holdings. However, his latest purchase is by far the most considerable amount of money he’s dropped to date.

Boasting an extensive portfolio, Eminem’s more traditional investments range from a little old sneaker startup called StockX to a recently launched diner/merchandise store in Detroit called Mom’s Spaghetti.
