Balenciaga’s $1,300 Hose Clamp is Industrial Fashion Gone Mad

Over the past few years, nearly everything that Demna Gvasalia touched has turned to gold, but this time, he’s opted for silver. The Balenciaga creative director has just unveiled a new lineup of industrial jewellery accessories, led by a rather familiar silhouette. Inspired by an everyday hose clamp, the Balenciaga Tool Bracelet is a USD$950 (AUD$1,300) ode to revitalisation and the quest to blend hyper-industrialism with contemporary fashion. Needless to say, this thing won’t slip off.

The automotive-inspired piece mimics the same form function seen on the standard hose clamp. A fitting generally used to seal a hose, the structure is traditionally designed with a metal band, which is secured in place using a captive screw on one end and emblazoned with screw thread pattern cut.

For Balenciaga’s recreation, the Tool Bracelet follows a similar design aesthetic, complete with a bolt detail that thankfully, does not actually tighten the bracelet. You’ll also find screw cage and perforated worm drive.

Crafted in Italy from 100 per cent brass, the Balenciaga Tool Bracelet follows the brand’s recent focus on industrial and functional fashion. In November, the iconic fashion house unveiled the Glam Earpods Holder in silver, crafted from shiny-toned brass and dripping in sparkly white rhinestones. The release also saw a ring phone holder constructed from the same materials, however, the Tool Bracelet is a little less gaudy on the eye.

Fans will note the classic Balenciaga branding engraved at the front and on the inside of the cuff. Priced at USD$950 (AUD$1,300), the Tool Bracelet isn’t exactly as affordable as its $13 inspiration, but then again, what price can you really put on fashion?
