Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming Marilyn Monroe film, Blonde. The NC-17-rated flick will drop on the streaming platform on September 23, with Golden Globe nominee Ana de Armas (No Time to Die) portraying the iconic actress and singer.
Described as a fictional take on the life of Marilyn Monroe, Blonde is written and directed by Andrew Dominik (Chopper), based on the Joyce Carol Oates 2000 novel of the same name. A long time coming, the project has been in development since 2012, with Jessica Chastain and Naomi Watts previously slated for the leading role. Starring alongside de Armas is Adrien Brody, Juliane Nicholson, Casper Phillipson, Bobby Cannavale and Toby Hus.
“One of America’s most acclaimed novelists boldly re-imagines one of America’s most enduring icons in Blonde—the National Book Award-nominated bestseller by Joyce Carol Oates,” reads the book synopsis. “The legend of Marilyn Monroe—aka Norma Jeane Baker—comes provocatively alive in this powerful tale of Hollywood myth and heartbreaking reality. Marilyn Monroe lives—reborn to tell her untold history; her story of a star created to shine brightest in the Hollywood firmament before her fall to earth. Blonde is a dazzling fictional portrait of the intricate inner life of the idolized and desired movie star as only the inimitable Joyce Carol Oates could paint it.”
The movie is produced by Plan B Entertainment, with Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tracey Landon and Scott Robertson signing on as producers. Production began in August 2019 and wrapped in July 2021.
Blonde is scheduled to stream on Netflix starting September 23. Check out the trailer above.
